Aziza Barnes resides in Queens NY, and published her first chapbook, me Aunt Jemima and the nailgun, in July of 2013 from Button Poetry Press. Barnes graduated from New York University with a BFA in theater, creative writing, and Africana Studies. There, she was a member of NYU’s poetry slam teams in 2011 and 2012, winning first place in the nation. Her work has been published in Muzzle Magazine and West 10th Literary Journal. She attended Callaloo’s inaugural UK writer’s workshop in London at the University of Goldsmiths in 2013. She is also co-founder of the Divine Fabrics Collective and is the poetry editor for Kinfolks: a journal of black expression.
